International symposium on Predictive Ecology in a Warming World
The Marie Skłodowska-Curie project ‘eWARM’, in collaboration with the Modeling Nature (MNat) and the Department of Ecology of the University of Granada, presents the international symposium ‘Predictive Ecology in a Warming World’. This cutting-edge event, at the forefront of Global Change Biology, is designed to push the boundaries of scientific knowledge through the presentation of ground-breaking and unpublished research.
The accelerated Global Change driven by human activities is creating an unprecedented impact on Earth’s biodiversity and ecosystem functioning. This impact reaches every corner of the planet, through the spread of pollutants, resource exploitation, the introduction of invasive species, atmospheric disruption, and the consequent global warming. The effects on populations and communities begin at molecular or physiological levels, scaling up to cells and organisms, ultimately altering population growth rates and demographics. These changes, in turn, modify species abundance and community interactions, affecting both biodiversity and ecosystem processes. Understanding how natural systems respond to these global impacts requires a multiscale approach that bridges different levels of biological organization, integrating concepts and methods from genetics, ecology, and evolutionary biology.
‘Predictive Ecology in a Warming World’ will consist of a series of talks by a select group of national and international researchers, which will be open to discussion with attendees. This unique event will gather high-impact scientists to focus on understanding and predicting Global Change, integrating and unifying diverse fields of biology.
The symposium will take place from 3 to 6 February 2025 between 9:00 and 14:30 at Carmen de la Victoria, Granada. The event is reserved for PhD researchers and PhD students, and attendance is free. However, space is limited, so pre-registration is required. To register, please send an email to peraltamaraver@ugr.es including your name, surname, and current stage of research career.
