Juan Calvo is Associate Proffesor at Departamento de Matemática Aplicada, Universidad de Granada (UGR). He got a Ph.D. in Mathematics at UGR in 2010. He has been a Juan de la Cierva postdoc fellow at Universitat Pompeu Fabra and a postdoc fellow at Centre de Recerca Matemàtica. He was awarded the "Premio Antonio Valle al joven investigador" (Sociedad Española de Matemática Aplicada) in 2016. As of 2016, he is working at UGR.
His main research lines are concerned with the analysis of partial differential equations (PDEs) and their applications. Some of his works concern degenerate parabolic equations as a way to model finite spreading in biological systems. He is particularly interested in the various families of singular travelling waves that arise in this context. Juan Calvo is also experienced in the analysis of PDE models in kinetic theory and their applications to describe relevant scenarios both in Astrophysics and Biology.
Juan Calvo teaches numerical analysis at the undergraduate level. His MSc teaching is concerned with mathematical models for cell communication.
